Temporary exhibition “animalECH”: My relationship with (non-human) animals
How do I position myself in relation to animals? How do animals position themselves in relation to me?
How do you react to the non-human animals that live around you? Do the spiders you encounter in your cellar make you shudder, or do you admire their skill in weaving complex webs? Are you fascinated or disgusted when you see a pigeon flying down the street?
Are you delighted by the return of the wolf to our regions, or do you prefer to keep the image of a great carnivore as described in fairy tales and legends? When you see a kitten only a few weeks old, do you see an adorable little creature or a future serial killer of biodiversity? Do the mounted animals displayed in a natural history museum do justice to the true nature of the species they represent, or should museums rethink how animals are portrayed?
There is no universal answer to these questions. Whether we are environmentalists, animal rights advocates, zoologists, museum curators or simply animal lovers, we all think and act differently.
The relationship between human and non-human animals is constantly evolving. Depending on the era and cultural context, it is shaped and reshaped by changing ethical, moral and legal ideas. Many practices once considered self-evident in our interactions with animals are now questioned or even deemed unacceptable.
This relationship also changes on an individual level throughout life. Personal experiences, recent scientific discoveries and social transformations all influence how we perceive and behave towards non-human animals.

The exhibition animalECH invites you to explore your own representations, to question your reactions and to examine them with a critical eye.
The CNA media library’s selections
The media library of the National Audiovisual Centre (CNA) Centre national de l'audiovisuel in Dudelange in Dudelange is a lending and on-site consultation library offering an audiovisual documentary collection, as well as resources in the fields of cinema, photography, music, and sound.
On the occasion of the “animalECH” exhibition, the media library is presenting three curated selections of films, documentaries, books, and digital content exploring the relationship between humans and animals. You will find one selection for adults, one for children, and a selection of content available via streaming on the video-on-demand platforms of the Luxembourg Digital Library (MéNuLu) – you just need to register with the media library!
Registration, borrowing documents, and access to the video-on-demand platforms are all free of charge!
