Scientific collaborators

What would the museum be without its volunteer scientific collaborators?

Behind the museum’s rich collections lies an entire community of passionate specialists and naturalists who give their time, share their knowledge with the museum’s scientists and, above all, devote their energy and enthusiasm to their work, helping to keep natural history alive.

The National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg has a community of more than 150 scientific collaborators who, over the past decades, have carried out countless studies on the natural heritage of our country -- its fauna, flora, geology and palaeontological past.

Appointed every three years by ministerial decree, the collaborators are affiliated, according to their area of expertise, with the museum’s various scientific sections (population biology, botany, ecology, geology/mineralogy, geophysics/astrophysics, palaeontology, zoology and, more recently, the history of science and collections). Among them are external professionals, science students and experienced naturalists.

In return for their invaluable contribution, the National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg offers these volunteers a range of services, including access to facilities and equipment, opportunities to attend conferences and congresses abroad, and the possibility of publishing in the series Ferrantia – Travaux scientifiques du MNHNL [Ferrantia – Scientific Works of the MNHNL].

Since 1982, the scientific collaborators have met each year in March for the Colloque sur le patrimoine naturel, la biodiversité et l’évolution [Colloquium on Natural Heritage, Biodiversity and Evolution].
