Visitor regulations

These regulations apply to visitors to the Naturmusée, as well as to individuals and groups authorized to use the premises of the Luxembourg National Museum of Natural History (MnhnL) for meetings, receptions, and/or various events.

ADMISSION FEES FOR THE NATURMUSÉE

Admission to the Naturmusée is subject to the current rates.

Young people under 21 and students up to age 26, as well as people with disabilities or limited mobility and their companions, may enter free of charge.

Admission to public lectures is generally free, unless otherwise indicated.

At closing time, all visitors must leave the museum. The ticket office stops selling tickets 30 minutes before closing time.

MUSEUM SECURITY

For safety reasons or in the event of exceptionally high visitor numbers, civil unrest, or any other circumstances that may compromise the safety of visitors or the collections, the museum reserves the right to modify its opening hours or to close some or all of its spaces.

The museum reminds visitors that the use of wheelchairs and strollers is the sole responsibility of their users.

Other means of transportation (scooters, skateboards, etc.) are not permitted within the museum grounds.

For the safety of all, the protection of the specimens and exhibits , and the comfort of all visitors, the following items are prohibited from being brought into the museum:

· Dangerous items: weapons, ammunition, explosive, flammable, or illegal substances.

· Bulky or heavy items; an item is considered bulky or heavy in a museum if it:

o Obstructs traffic (e.g., bulky suitcases, large backpacks, non-folding double strollers);

o Poses a risk to the exhibits or other visitors (e.g., long, sharp, or fragile objects, selfie sticks, balloons…);

o Require special effort to carry or move (e.g., packages, suitcases, musical instruments, etc.).

Animals are not permitted, except for service dogs (with proof).

COAT CHECK

For your convenience, an unattended coat check is available at the museum entrance. Secure lockers are also available for you to store your belongings safely.

Please note:

· Do not leave valuables in the coat check (the museum assumes no liability for theft or loss).

· Use the lockers for your large bags or bulky items.

For security reasons, you may be asked to open a bag or piece of luggage if there is reasonable cause for suspicion.

If you lose a locker key, please report it to the front desk. If a locker remains locked after the museum closes, it will be opened after 3 days.

Lost items are kept for one month and can be claimed at the museum reception desk.

MUSEUM INFORMATION

· The slide is an educational exhibit. Its use is subject to safety rules (minimum height of 1 meter, one child at a time).

· The gardens are part of the museum and are not playgrounds. Picking plants is prohibited.

· Audio guides are available to visitors at the Naturmusée reception desk. To borrow an audio guide, you must leave a form of

identification as a deposit. We encourage you to use the headphones provided.

GENERAL CONDUCT

· Please dress appropriately (no bare chests, bare feet, or bikinis).

· Respect the staff and other visitors: any noisy, aggressive, insulting, or indecent behavior is prohibited.

· Do not touch the specimens and exhibits, display cases, pedestals, or security devices.

· Do not cross barriers or enter restricted areas (emergency exits, fire escapes, etc.), except in an emergency.

a. Safety and Cleanliness

· Do not smoke inside the museum.

· Do not consume food or beverages in the exhibition areas.

· Do not litter (paper, cigarette butts, gum, etc.).

· Do not leave your belongings unattended.

· Do not tamper with safety equipment (fire alarms, fire extinguishers, etc.).

b. Respect for the premises and other visitors

· Do not block walkways or stairways (avoid sitting on the steps).

· Avoid running, pushing, slipping, or climbing.

· Turn off or set your phone to silent mode (no speakerphone).

· Do not damage the walls, floors, or exhibits (graffiti, stickers, etc.), either inside the museum or on the exterior facades...

· Do not touch the taxidermied animals, even if you are visually impaired.

c. Specific Activities

· Any photography or recording (photos, videos, etc.) for professional or commercial use must be authorized in writing by the management.

· Certain specimens, exhibits, or temporary exhibitions may not be photographed (due to copyright or at the management’s request). These restrictions are posted on-site.

· Do not photograph other visitors without their explicit consent.

· Respect those who do not wish to appear in photos or videos (including on social media).

· For minors: written parental consent is required.

· Any survey or poll of visitors or staff must be authorized in writing by management, which may delegate this authority.

· Events (meetings, gatherings, etc.) are prohibited without prior approval.

SPECIAL PROVISIONS FOR GROUPS

Hours:

Groups may visit the museum during regular opening hours.
Outside these hours, a group leader must always be present to ensure compliance with the rules.

Mandatory supervision:

Even if the museum provides a guide, the group leader must remain present at all times.

Reservations recommended:

To help us plan better, please register your group in advance. This allows us to offer you suitable time slots. You can register on the website: booking.mnhn.lu

Tour details:

Groups of more than 30 people: must be divided into smaller groups to ensure a smooth and safe tour.

Unregistered groups:

o Are asked to avoid disrupting other visitors or registered groups.

o May be split up or have their entry time adjusted.

o In the event of high visitor volume, their entry may be denied.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an accident, illness, or unusual incident:

· Immediately alert a security officer or the front desk.

· Do not move an injured or ill person, and do not give them anything to drink or any medication before emergency services arrive.

· If you are a healthcare professional (doctor, nurse, first responder) and are assisting:

· Stay with the person in distress until they are evacuated.

· Leave your contact information (name and address) at the front desk.

In the event of theft or an alert:

If an attempted theft is detected, the museum may close access points and monitor exits.

A surveillance and/or video surveillance system is in place to ensure security.

Evacuation of the Naturmusée buildings:

Stay calm and follow the staff’s instructions.

Leave the building via the emergency exits (follow the arrows).

Meet at the assembly point: the square in front of the church, next to the museum.

Penalties:

Failure to comply with safety rules or endangering people and/or the collections may result in expulsion from the museum and/or legal action if necessary.

Visitor Rights:

Museums may invoke their right of ownership (or management) to enforce access rules, provided they respect fundamental freedoms (GDPR, right to privacy, non-discrimination). If a visitor refuses to comply with these rules, the museum may deny them entry.
