Ferrantia

Ferrantia (ISSN 1682‑5519) is a series of monographic volumes, ranging from 50 to 500 pages, published by the Luxembourg National Museum of Natural History.

The first volume of the Travaux scientifiques du MNHNL [Scientific Works of the MNHNL] was published in 1981. Since volume 33, released in 2002, the series has appeared under the name Ferrantia, in a new format and with a more modern layout. Before publication, each volume undergoes peer review.

The title Ferrantia – Travaux scientifiques du Musée national d’histoire naturelle [Ferrantia – Scientific Works of the National Museum of Natural History] pays tribute to Victor Ferrant (1856–1942), a founding member of the Society of Luxembourg Naturalists, and assistant curator, then curator of the National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg from 1894 to 1940, succeeding Alphonse de la Fontaine. An internationally renowned naturalist and scientist, Ferrant distinguished himself through his work in zoology, prehistory, geology and palaeontology. An impressive number of species, and even a genus, have been named in his honour.

Ferrantia covers the life and Earth sciences, with a particular focus on research directly or indirectly linked to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It publishes original results from studies carried out by the museum’s scientists in botany, zoology, ecology, geology, mineralogy, palaeontology, geophysics, astrophysics and related fields. An entire issue of Ferrantia may be devoted to several articles on the same topic, under the responsibility of a guest editor.

Printed copies of Ferrantia (with a print run of 500 copies) are sent to over 150 institutions and libraries, both in Europe and worldwide.
