Fluid circulation study during the formation of polymetal deposits in Luxembourg

Recent mineralogical studies no longer limit themselves to a simple inventory but also include the formation conditions of these deposits. The research project on palaeofluids has been launched, with a first publication on the Stolzembourg deposit.

 

The microthermometric study of samples from the Cu, Pb, Zn and Sb deposits of the Éisleck, from localised Pb and Ba mineralisations in the Guttland, and from quartz veins in the basement, aims to determine the pressure, temperature and composition of the metasomatic fluids responsible for these deposits. Through this approach, the research team seeks to understand the genesis and chronology of these polymetallic deposits in Luxembourg. This even makes it possible to integrate and compare these deposits with regional deposits in a broader European formation context. This work is carried out in collaboration with the University and the École des Mines of Nancy.
