Petrography

The rock collection comprises around 2,400 samples, including approximately 1,300 specimens representing the diversity of rocks found in the Grand Duchy, 300 rocks from Germany, and more than 200 samples accompanied by thin sections. It offers strong representation of sedimentary, metamorphic, igneous, and volcanic rocks, both regional and international.

The collection was significantly enriched by the addition of the national rock collection assembled by the geologist Paul Antun, as well as by material obtained from exploratory drilling in various parts of the country. It is intended to serve as a reference collection for geologists and archaeologists.

In addition, the museum holds a mineral collection of around 300 samples, classified by metal.
