Mineralogy

Mineralogy Collections

The mineralogical collections comprise more than 45,000 specimens, ranging from systematic samples to exhibition pieces, as well as specimens of national significance and representative examples from major deposits worldwide. 

 

These collections are subdivided as follows:

  • the national collection, bringing together a systematic sampling of all mineralogical occurrences within the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
  • regional collections, focused primarily on the Greater Region and subdivided into the mineralogy of France, Belgium, and Germany. These include exceptional and unique specimens, as well as systematic scientific material for the Greater Region.
  • two collections linked to historical and contemporary scientific expeditions: one centred on Brazil and the other on Africa.
  • a global systematic mineralogy collection.
